Wireless Merchant Account
Can anyone recommend a wireless credit card terminal that they like, ie. printing, weight, ease, functionality
I just started a small business and have a merchant account. I am looking into spending $250 or much less for a wireless credit card machine. Any models that would particularly fit my budget? I will just be going to tradeshows and flea markets. I need some very easy and reliable but within a small budget.
At the price range your looking at you’re not going to find a real wireless solution. There aren’t many wireless solutions out there and they tend to start at about $500. If that’s too much for you then you should calling your orders in for a voice authorization, imprint the credit card, and then capture the sale later using a basic credit card terminal.

Payoneer is one of the best solutions for you.
Paypal is hard to work with here in the Philippines too and we get around it by adding a Payoneer prepaid card, feed it with Paypal and withdraw our funds from the bank.

Secure Merchant Account
HHEELLPPPP!?!?!?!? Identity theft!!!
I got a disturbing call to wake me up this morning. It was my bank telling me that someone had tried to make a purchase in the amount of $15,000!!! Upon finding that out and canceling my card, I got online and checked out my account. There are a whole bunch of smaller purchases on there that depleted my account down to it’s last $100. Does anyone have any experience with this??? They said to go into the bank and file an affidaifidt. Will I get most of this money back from the purchases that I didn’t make? What’s the process and how does it work?
How could this have possibly happen?!?! I think of myself as being pretty secure. Though I often shop online, I have no clue how someone could have gotten my account number unless directly from an online store or something. I only shop with secure merchants!

Notify the credit reporting agencies. Cancel all credit cards, bank accounts and open new ones. Change all passwords. Keep a close eye on your credit report in the future.
How did this happen? Possibly your PC is infected. Someone went through your trash at home and found something.

Cheap Merchant Accounts
Payment Gateway for accepting credit and debit cards from customers in US, UK, Canada and Australia?
Im putting a business website through which i will be targeting customers in USA, UK, Canada and Australia. I will be accepting credit and debit cards online from customers through a payment gateway. Can anyone suggest any good secure but cheap payment gateway provider except Paypal that would enable me to accept credit and debit cards from people of these countries?I dont want to pay the monthly fees as i cannot afford it now .Though im okay with a onetime setup fee. I esp need to accept American Express, Discover, Visa and Mastercard.
Also I need to know whether i need only a payment gateway for this or whether i need a merchant account too?

You need both a gateway (that is what hooks to the shopping cart) and a merchant account. Most companies won’t charge a setup fee to get a merchant account. Here is a company that has no setup fees and charges $10 per month for the gateway. Fill out their form and they will send the application docs and information.

Aside from SSL (secure sockets layer), merchant account providers also use:
Fraud detection suite
Address verification service(AVS)
Internet Authentication Protocol
and PCI and CISP certifications
most merchant account providers work hand in hand with payment gateways to secure your transaction data. Some have optional security tools for additional expense i think losing money due to fraud is more expensive than actually avoiding it.

Can somebody tell me what regulates or governs transactions between a merchant and a credit card company?
I want to file some formal complaints involving my business merchant account and a credit card company. Trying to figure out the best way to go. Do I file a complaint with the state they are located in via attorney general? Appreciate any ideas.
In my experience the credit card company sets the rules and the merchant accepts them. If you’ve tried to work out your disagreement with the credit card company but couldn’t reach resolution you should turn to whoever is named in an arbitration clause if one is present in your contract. I doubt that an attorney general is going to be interested in your dispute unless it involves fraud or other criminal activity.

E Commerce Merchant Account
Does anyone have any suggestions on a Merchant Account provider for an e-commerce business?

You have many options… And will receive numerous advertisements and self-proclamations to this question. I’ll try and keep it primarily informational.
If you are looking at ecommerce enabled web/based processing – you’ll likely be best served using a separate merchant account provider and gateway provider – simply because third party gateways tend to focus only on being a gateway and compliant to PCI, while the merchant account provider – although typically offering some type of in-house branded gateway – doesn’t have the staff to properly support.
If you are looking for an integrated shopping cart with the gateway – this limits the list way down – as there are only a few – and even less who actually develop and support themselves.
If you are looking at using a third party shopping cart like OS Commerce – it is supported (as are most) by the majority of the third party gateways. Your third party gateways will have superior products and services as well as support versus any of the ‘branded’ solutions or the Auth.net empire.
As to the merchant account – there are hundreds of offers and even more schemes of pricing. Understand that are some simple principles (certain types of cards are more expensive to process than others), and no one will process your business for below or near cost (business doesn’t work that way) – although you will be told otherwise. Also understand that the difference between a rate of 1.15% and 1.19% for a merchant who processes $1000.00 per week is only $.40 – and you’d be amazed at how many people sign off on that rate thinking they have accomplished something great – only to miss the boat – as their ecommerce and those rates related to swiped transactions – NOT ecommerce… Which coincidentally was outrageously higher – but the quality rep they signed with was nowhere to be found once they figured it out.
Yes, I sell this stuff (and have since 91’) and did contract work for 5 years for a gateway in product development – but this post isn’t for promotion – its about educating.

Do many webmasters use merchant account providers? Are there any other methods to receive payment for online services?
The answer is this: it depends on their needs.
Most web developers don’t have a true merchant account because their clients prefer to pay by check or can pay by check if necessary.
Since having a merchant account also entails paying monthly fees many webmasters will only want to have one if they find they have either a high demand from their customers or have a business model that requires it (recurring billing, etc.)
For the webmasters who don’t have a merchant account Paypal makes for a suitable solution for accepting payments when necessary.

Merchant Account Gateway
help me decide bw 2 merchant account providers?
I am setting up to accept credit card payments. I narrowed down to 2 providers, AMS (advanced merchant svcs), OR paynet systems.
Thay both seem ok, paynet being cheaper, but AMS having authorize.net gateway for free (which I could use with an online shopping cart).
Anyone had any experience with either?
I would appreciate your sincere opinion. Thanks!
Forget both and use Costco.

E Merchant Account
letting my e-commerce site accept monthly payments from a card.?
I would like to offer my customers the option of making payments monthly automatically on products (like on hsn and qvc) it would deduct from their card every month automatically. Also, what if they cancel the card or it is denied? Would they have to have entered a backup card in case??
is that something that I would have to do myself with coding or is it something i would work out with my merchant account provider?

This is something you would handle programmatically. Your payment gateway would tell your website the payment was declined and then your website would do whatever you want it to do. Most likely this would be to suspend the account and email the user to tell them they need to enter a new credit card for payment. Your website would then obviously handle that payment.
You should look at Authorize.Net’s Customer Information Manager (CIM) as it can make managing this fairly simpe although it still would require a lot of programming to manage. Their Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) service can also be used for this.

Is it illegal to have more than one credit card processor?
I own a small business and I’m expanding in a couple of weeks. The current credit card company I’m with charges me some pretty high rates but they’ve been with me since the beginning and took a chance on me. Would it be illegal for me to use another company to process my credit cards for my new location? Can I have more than one credit card processing company?
Generally credit card processors will not allow you to do this, unless you own multiple chains/locations. Quit paying the high charges with your current company, first speak with them about your current rates to see if they will reduce them, if not move on. Your loyalty is commendable, however, this is business and you’re in it to make money and that means making smart financial decisions.
