Is it illegal to have more than one credit card processor?
I own a small business and I’m expanding in a couple of weeks. The current credit card company I’m with charges me some pretty high rates but they’ve been with me since the beginning and took a chance on me. Would it be illegal for me to use another company to process my credit cards for my new location? Can I have more than one credit card processing company?
Generally credit card processors will not allow you to do this, unless you own multiple chains/locations. Quit paying the high charges with your current company, first speak with them about your current rates to see if they will reduce them, if not move on. Your loyalty is commendable, however, this is business and you’re in it to make money and that means making smart financial decisions.

In the Terms & Conditions for getting the MuchMusic Prepaid Mastercard says:
“Due to the legislative changes in Canada and/or the U.S. affecting banks and payment processors, the Card may not function or be accepted as payment for transactions relating to online gaming and/or gambling. Such legislative restrictions prohibit banks and payment processors from processing payments to online gaming and/or gambling websites.”
Can I still use it to buy game time for World of Warcraft?

is it a scam. someone from grant educational resources.com
call me about a grant they took my information and they ask for a deposit of $300.00 for processing fees they say they’ll send information in the mail in 10 days before they debit my account. 10 days came and they debit my account but no information came in the mail. they used a company called ip-ecommerce.com to debit my credit card, now it hard to get through to them have any ever received a call from these guys.
I don’t know but I think investing in education (namely English / writing) might be a wise one for you. It’s “Has anyone…”.
And it definitely sounds like a scam. I would talk to your bank immediately and ask to fill out an affidavit explaining what happened and do a charge dispute and reversal. Scam artists are … well, artists at scamming. Critical thinking is a great tool.
Otherwise, you need to ask for a new debit card (new number) because you’ll be lucky if $300 is all you lose.

There’s a lot involved so I can’t give a thorough answer here but I can give you a good overview and then you can read the sources below for more information
1) You need to establish a merchant account. This usually takes around a week to complete and requires plenty of paperwork and a website to review.

why are there different discount rates for credit card processing? I think I want to avail of a merchant account for my business but this whole discount rate and other rates are confusing me. please enlighten me. thanks.
A discount rate is a percantage charged for each transaction that passes through the credit card processing company. For an order of $100 given that your discount rate is 3%, the credit card processing company will deduct $3.
For card not present transactions, where the risk of fraud is higher, the discount rate is higher, as compared to card present transactions.

Seperate web merchant account?
Does anybody know if I can have a seperate web merchant account when I already have a regular merchant account for a physical retail store? (Try to avoid using the current provider because it requires to sign another contract and we’re not exactly happy with their service right now) Since I haven’t got familiar with how the webstore will operate technically, I don’t know if using a different processing serice will cause any conflict?

Yes, you can. An e-commerce account would be considered a completely separate entity.
Contrary to the previous answer, though, you can’t have as many merchant accounts as you like. Your current provider at your brick and mortar location probably has something in their agreement that states you must use their service only at that location.
Don’t get locked into any term agreements on this one. There are plenty of good processors out there that provide “at will” service. Also, be wary of “free” setups. The software that processors use is not free and they’ll often make up the difference in the fineprint.
Also, be sure to work with a company that discloses all of their rates for different card categories (Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Rewards, Visa Commercial, MasterCard, MasterCard Debit, MasterCard World, etc.). The discount rate that you will be quoted is only correct for certain cards.
Lastly, make sure to ask about Payment Card Industry(PCI) Data Security Compiance. Many processors fail to mention your liability for cardholder information. Instead, they simply put language in their agreement indemnifying themselves and leaving you unprotected. Check out the Rip-Off Report for some horror stories about businesses that are out thousands of dollars.

Credit Card Merchant Service
Merchant charged different than I signed for on my Credit card slip at POS.?
How can a merchant give me a slip to sign for one amount, I don’t include a tip on the charge, but the point of service swipe on my card is for the purchase PLUS the tip? Again, this was done at point of service, not after the fact. (NOTE: This was corrected when VISA received the signed slip)
next time you draw a neat line in the Tips field and confirm by rewriting the Total amount at the bottom of the slip.
If you just sign and leave the fields blank is like signing a blank cheque.
It doesnt matter if you left tips separately, the credit card payment in restaurants and services like Blue Van supershuttle allows for a tip to be added every time a c/card is used. It is up to you to protect your own S by drawing the —-across line on the Tips field and rewriting clearly the total amount at the bottom.
If your tip was not appropriate or you were a pain in the S or left no tips the waiters will take care of you

I am in need of a good credit card processor that can be processed for online orders and through a terminal.
I have been scammed by Paypal and others like them (held my funds and will not release them even after giving them everything they wanted), and am need of a new processor immedietly!

What is the difference between a merchant account and a payment gateway?
I’m a new’be in web and I pretend to setup my online store. The question I have is … What is the difference between a merchant account and a payment gateway? and why do a merchant would require any of those services?
A merchant account simply allows you to accept credit card payments and a payment gateway authenticates and authorizes individual credit card transactions.
Both are necessary if you’re setting up an online store and want to accept credit card payments. Some merchant accounts include the payment gateway, but most don’t.

Is bluehost any good for an e-commerce site?
I’ve done some serious digging for a good hosting site for some time. godaddy.com has been my top choice simply because it is most recommended, and it best fit the needs of what I want to do? Would bluehost be any good for my needs or should I stick with godaddy. I’ve calculated that I would have to pay $150 up front, plus $65 monthly with godaddy, compared to $6.95 plus a merchant account w/ bluehost. I’m simply trying to figure out what’s the catch with bluehost.

Small Business Merchant Account
I have a question about a career in the merchant bankcard business ?
I am a 33 year old male and I just laid off from my banking job and I am considering getting into outside sales selling credit card machines and other services to small businesses. The job is 100% commission and it is extremely appealing to me. The company basically sets up appointments for me and I got out and sell small businesses on saving money on their merchant account . Im scared to try it because Im not sure if its a secure income. On the other hand, I dont want to go back to work a 9 to 5 job because I like the freedom that being an independant sales gives me. Can someone tell me if outside sales is a lucrative career ? What about the competition ? Can you make consistant income from it ? Is the merchant bankcard business a good business to be in ?
It is risky job. You just have know if you’re ready to take the risk. Even if it seems lucrative because of the 100% commission thing, it’s still up to your skills as a salesman. You should definitely clear all clouds with your employer. If your company is still a start-up company, then struggles are expected. Merchant accounts are challenging to deal with, but you just have to know how when to strike.

Merchant Account Payment Gateway
I got a chargeback for fraud on my merchant account, what happens now?
I got a chargeback on my M.A. for fraud, which of course I did not participate in. My question is, first of all the payment gateway did not have an option to decline transactions if the address or CVV did not match and he placed a $499 order. Secondly, it has been 3 months since the transaction (who waits that long to dispute transactions?). And thirdly, what happens if I can’t pay back the amount?
I will give a short outline of the chargeback process so you can get an idea of what it is and what you can do in regard to this particular transaction.
A chargeback begins with the cardholder contacting his card issuer, notifying them that he is disputing a transaction. In most cases, before a chargeback is initiated, the card issuer requests a copy of the sales record. If there is sufficient evidence to support the cardholder’s request, the card issuer sends the transaction back to the acquirer (your processing bank), who, if not able to resolve the issue, may contact you for additional information. What that means is that you should deal directly with your payment processor. Tell them what happened and provide supporting evidence.
If you provide sufficient evidence to warrant a reversal of the chargeback, your processor will forward the representation to the issuer through the Credit Card Network (Visa or MasterCard). In essence, the transaction will be reinstated and you will get your money back.
