Credit Card Payment Processing
Can someone explain the entire credit card process;who makes money after my card is swiped? First Data?
I’m looking to see how a company like First Data or Mastercard makes money. I read that JPMorganChase decided to move away from First Data to process their cards.
Can someone explain how First Data makes money (not via Western Union)?
Am I to understand that they “process” the credit card or debit payment? So if they process payments for a particular bank or credit card company, they make a fee for every transaction? What is that fee normally?
Is this in addition to the fees Mastercard or Visa makes as well?
It seems to me that credit card usage will keep increasing, even in rough economic times, and that the companies that will benefit would be companies like First Data and Mastercard. Can someone chime in on that? Thanks in advance!
I hope this doesn’t confuse you even more. Credit card companies make money when you, the consumer, fail to pay off the entire balance by the end of a 30 day period. This is where you start paying interest and this is where the credit card companies like Visa and Mastercharge make their profits. Target issues credit cards too, and I’ll use that as another example. Target banks heavily that their credit card users will not keep a zero balance from month to month, so Target does successfully make alot of money from the interest. It’s because people use cards, over use them, and cannot possibly keep up. The card companies know this. But if you have a credit card, use it only modestly and pay it off each month, you escape the fees that others pay in your place. That’s the key – don’t carry debt from month to month. Do that responsibly and the card is a good tool for building up a good credit score that may benefit you later when you want to buy a home and need a loan.

How are credit card transactions processed for Credits?
I returned an item to a store which I had purchased with one credit card. In the mean time I had canceled this card. When the clerk went to credit me she said she could only credit back that card, not the one I had to replace it. Was this just this stores policy, or is that just the way things are?
Unfortunately, that is the way things are. It is common practice for companies to credit a patron in the same manner that the company was paid. There is a couple reasons for this. First, in order to process a refund, the company has to credit the money back to the same card that was used. The reason for this is so the company can get back the service charges that the credit card companies charge for their service.
The second reason, which is actually not considered by the average person is that this would be an effective method of money laundering. Someone steals someone’s credit card, makes a bunch of purchases, then later returns the item to place the money on their own credit card. By crediting the same card only, this form of money laundering is prevented.

is it a scam. someone from grant educational resources.com
call me about a grant they took my information and they ask for a deposit of $300.00 for processing fees they say they’ll send information in the mail in 10 days before they debit my account. 10 days came and they debit my account but no information came in the mail. they used a company called ip-ecommerce.com to debit my credit card, now it hard to get through to them have any ever received a call from these guys.
I don’t know but I think investing in education (namely English / writing) might be a wise one for you. It’s “Has anyone…”.
And it definitely sounds like a scam. I would talk to your bank immediately and ask to fill out an affidavit explaining what happened and do a charge dispute and reversal. Scam artists are … well, artists at scamming. Critical thinking is a great tool.
Otherwise, you need to ask for a new debit card (new number) because you’ll be lucky if $300 is all you lose.

Accept credit cards online Adult Site?
I am looking for a merchant account that will process credit card payment online. A 3rd party processor would be ok. This is for a adult dating web site and every company I have found does not work with adult sites. I also need international payment processing. If anyone knows of a good legitimate company please post the name or link.
Your business falls into the highest risk category for credit card processing, that’s why you are having a hard time finding a provider. You don’t have to go through a third party processor though. They are the most expensive ones and you give up control over your account as well. If you Google “adult credit card processing”, you will come up with a whole bunch of potential processors and the first in the list is appropriately called www.adultcardprocessing.com.
Be advised that the reason not every merchant account provider can accommodate your business requirements is that US banks will not underwrite certain very high-risk accounts (like yours). So companies that can provide you with merchant services are large enough to be able to underwrite (in other words to assume the risk) themselves. Most of the time they also have relationships with offshore banks and will be able to do your international processing as well.

What are some good sites to research in order to sell products online w/o having to setup a merchant account?
Beyond sites like Ebay but something that can be tailored to host the product listings without having to invest in a separate merchant account and building a database to query the products. I would rather it be something that can be integrated in a current site without it having to redirect to another site to make the final purchase. Ebay has recently changed their policies and they no longer accept any forms of payment other than Paypal or Merchant Account. They used to allow sellers to accept money orders or personal checks but not anymore. Unfortunately there is no other way around it…you will not be able to list unless you have a Paypal or Merchant account. Setting up a paypal account is easy and safe, most people actually prefer Paypal over any other service. Hope this helps!
