why are there different discount rates?

why are there different discount rates for credit card processing? I think I want to avail of a merchant account for my business but this whole discount rate and other rates are confusing me. please enlighten me. thanks.

A discount rate is a percantage charged for each transaction that passes through the credit card processing company. For an order of $100 given that your discount rate is 3%, the credit card processing company will deduct $3.

For card not present transactions, where the risk of fraud is higher, the discount rate is higher, as compared to card present transactions.

How do I set up a Japanese Merchant account so I can to Japanese customers online?

I have many business dealings with the Japanese.

Unfortunately, as your question is a tad bit ambiguous I can only give you a general guideline on setting up a Jap Merchant Account.

If you are referring to setting up an electronic merchant account for internet shops and auctions than basically it is just the same as you would a normal account (try paypal or ebay). The only difference would be that a majority of your Japanese customers would not understand what you are trying to sell online as their command of the english language is not strong. Visuals are very important.

As for currency, the Japs are willing to pay in US$ online.
