Merchant Account In Uk

accepting payments online. what is the process please?
hi. im opening an online furniture business in the UK. i want to accept card payments, but dont want to use paypal.
can you please tell me what the process is? my business account has been opened today.
somebody mentioned that i need a merchant account and payment gateway.
also need to access the payments within a week or so as i buy the goods after the customer orders them, rather then keep them in stock.
xx
all advice would be appreciated. thanks. x
What’s your objection to using Paypal? Many on-line retailers use them. (We have for some time.) The only issue that we’ve had, which I can understand might be a problem with the products you’re selling is that they have a transaction limit of £650 for buyers who don’t have a Paypal account.
We looked at setting up a bureau account with Netbanx to get round this. They’re UK based, you can speak to real people easily if you have questions and their fees are very reasonable. I think it takes up to 2 weeks to get your money through from them but that’s quicker than most of the other providers.
The other benefit of having a burea account with Netbanx is that you don’t need a merchant account as well. Banks usually won’t give you a merchant account until you’ve been with them for 6 months. After 6 months with Netbanx you can apply to have a merchant account. It doesn’t seem worth it, however, as the bank will charge you a fee for having the merchant account and you’ll still have to pay your fees for payment transactions.
As has been mentioned elsewhere, you’ll need a shopping cart. We use Roman Cart. Not difficult to set up and they give you all the code to put into your website.
In summary, therefore, you need a website, a shopping cart provider (check whether your hosting company provides one or check out Roman Cart) and a payment gateway such as Paypal or Netbanx.
Good luck!

What Are The Laws Regarding Offshore Banking / Merchant Accounts / Tax?
I am currently starting up an internet business. I know that there are a lot of risks when working online, especially in the area of fraud and people using stolen CC details etc.
Due to these risks I am going to signup for a High Risk Merchant Account.
This will be more leniant in the way of chargebacks and my funds wont simply get frozen if I get a few chargebacks unlike banks within the UK where there are close to none High Risk Merchant Accounts.
Is it legal to have an offshore merchant account within tax laws and simply the case of having the account?
I don’t know this type of account but it is certainly lawful to have any type of account you want, wherever you want it. Any profits in that bank account need to be included in your business accounts for tax purposes, of course.

Web Merchant Account

I wrote a book about my successful appearances on four t.v. game shows. How can I sell my bookon the internet?
I was a contestant and winner on four different t.v. game shows. People always ask me how I became a contestant; what was it like being on the air, among a host of other questions. After coaxing from some friends I wrote a book telling people all about my t.v. game show experience; behind the scenes etc. I need to know how I can sell my book using the internet. Do I need my own web-site and a merchant’s bank account to be able to accept credit cards? Would someone please guide me as to how I can sell my book over the internet. I already have a plan as to what words I want to use to advertise, but I do not know how to advertise on the internet.
Okay. I would advise getting a web developer to do it for you. You will also need a paypal account (www.paypal.com) thats the easiest way to get sell abook. You will also need a registered domain name and webhosting. My idea would be Jumba (www.jumba.com.au) They cost US$10 approx. per year to host a website.
Cheers, Daniel

E Commerce Merchant Account

Does anyone have any suggestions on a Merchant Account provider for an e-commerce business?
If you have any experience with a good merchant account provider please pass it along. As well as anyone to avoid.
Many Thanks
You have many options… And will receive numerous advertisements and self-proclamations to this question. I’ll try and keep it primarily informational.
If you are looking at ecommerce enabled web/based processing – you’ll likely be best served using a separate merchant account provider and gateway provider – simply because third party gateways tend to focus only on being a gateway and compliant to PCI, while the merchant account provider – although typically offering some type of in-house branded gateway – doesn’t have the staff to properly support.
If you are looking for an integrated shopping cart with the gateway – this limits the list way down – as there are only a few – and even less who actually develop and support themselves.
If you are looking at using a third party shopping cart like OS Commerce – it is supported (as are most) by the majority of the third party gateways. Your third party gateways will have superior products and services as well as support versus any of the ‘branded’ solutions or the Auth.net empire.
As to the merchant account – there are hundreds of offers and even more schemes of pricing. Understand that are some simple principles (certain types of cards are more expensive to process than others), and no one will process your business for below or near cost (business doesn’t work that way) – although you will be told otherwise. Also understand that the difference between a rate of 1.15% and 1.19% for a merchant who processes $1000.00 per week is only $.40 – and you’d be amazed at how many people sign off on that rate thinking they have accomplished something great – only to miss the boat – as their ecommerce and those rates related to swiped transactions – NOT ecommerce… Which coincidentally was outrageously higher – but the quality rep they signed with was nowhere to be found once they figured it out.
Yes, I sell this stuff (and have since 91’) and did contract work for 5 years for a gateway in product development – but this post isn’t for promotion – its about educating.
If you have questions – just call 888-700-7153 – I don’t promise the fastest/greatest/lowest/ect… Just the truth.
Brett.

letting my e-commerce site accept monthly payments from a card.?
I would like to offer my customers the option of making payments monthly automatically on products (like on hsn and qvc) it would deduct from their card every month automatically. Also, what if they cancel the card or it is denied? Would they have to have entered a backup card in case??
is that something that I would have to do myself with coding or is it something i would work out with my merchant account provider?
THANK YOU!
This is something you would handle programmatically. Your payment gateway would tell your website the payment was declined and then your website would do whatever you want it to do. Most likely this would be to suspend the account and email the user to tell them they need to enter a new credit card for payment. Your website would then obviously handle that payment.
You should look at Authorize.Net’s Customer Information Manager (CIM) as it can make managing this fairly simpe although it still would require a lot of programming to manage. Their Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) service can also be used for this.

stuck what do you do? how can I raise the money?
One answer I got was OK the going to the media center to look up grants but I thought grants applied to services for the govt and or research? someone said in one answer 1,500 was too high to start a errand service? it’s 45 to get a city Lisc. and proper car insurance etc, it’s about 1,500 bucks . one said get a pizza job or waiter job HELLO ? sorry but I’ve already looked in those areas I’m either too old or whatever? they already hired college students for waiting jobs as we approach summer soon and pizzerias um GAS costs? whereas in the errand services I can build in costs that include covering for the fuel,of course now that I think of it ,this will probably take ALL of the 1,500 as I have to set up a merchant account for easy transactions. any more ideas on how to raise capital as in getting the dough to start the business? 1,500 isn’t alot of money, paying it back by mid summer or sooner! will be achieved my business will take off real quick I’ve looked into this Biz .
… and your question is where???
Thanks for two!

how do i put a merchant account on my site?
Hi how do I program Html to put my merchant account on my website so people can pay me by credit card?
There’s a lot involved so I can’t give a thorough answer here but I can give you a good overview and then you can read the sources below for more information
1) You need to establish a merchant account. This usually takes around a week to complete and requires plenty of paperwork and a website to review.
2) You need to set up an account with a payment gateway like Authorize.Net. They act like the credit card terminal for your website.
3) You need to write code that connects your website to the payment gateway.

How can I list and sell my books & ebooks I wrote online without getting my own merchant account or terminal?
I’m a self-publishing writer and wish to sell my own books myself online, I have a website but it’s not e-commerce ready, and I don’t wish to get a merchant account or internet terminal so I can accept credit cards from costomers, instead I wish to find a site where I can list my books at or even just refer books buyesr to it, and they take care of accepting money from byuers, deduct their commissions and deposit my share into my credit card. Is there such a thing?
Solicit Amazon.com. Maybe, Google e-books and see what kind of stuff they have regarding accepting or publishing new writer’s material. Good Luck! There are a LOT of people who would like to find such a web-site.

What is a discount rate fee?
Was able to check them out on a website that contains the fees that a merchant account holder will pay in order to set up a merchant account. But the content lack information on exactly what it is. Any ideas will be really helpful. Thanks!
Hi there!
The discount rate fee is the percentage charged for each transaction that the processing company (merchant account provider) charges to manage the transactions for you, either swiped, over the internet and mail-order, telephone-order (MOTO).

Merchant Service Account

Seperate web merchant account?
Does anybody know if I can have a seperate web merchant account when I already have a regular merchant account for a physical retail store? (Try to avoid using the current provider because it requires to sign another contract and we’re not exactly happy with their service right now) Since I haven’t got familiar with how the webstore will operate technically, I don’t know if using a different processing serice will cause any conflict?
Thanks!
Also, any recent experience dealing with PayPal. The reviews on PayPal are very mixed, and an anti-Paypal site directs people to Cardservice International, which has received comparable horrible reviews.
Yes, you can. An e-commerce account would be considered a completely separate entity.
Contrary to the previous answer, though, you can’t have as many merchant accounts as you like. Your current provider at your brick and mortar location probably has something in their agreement that states you must use their service only at that location.
Don’t get locked into any term agreements on this one. There are plenty of good processors out there that provide “at will” service. Also, be wary of “free” setups. The software that processors use is not free and they’ll often make up the difference in the fineprint.
Also, be sure to work with a company that discloses all of their rates for different card categories (Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Rewards, Visa Commercial, MasterCard, MasterCard Debit, MasterCard World, etc.). The discount rate that you will be quoted is only correct for certain cards.
Lastly, make sure to ask about Payment Card Industry(PCI) Data Security Compiance. Many processors fail to mention your liability for cardholder information. Instead, they simply put language in their agreement indemnifying themselves and leaving you unprotected. Check out the Rip-Off Report for some horror stories about businesses that are out thousands of dollars.
Good Luck!

What is the difference between a merchant account and a payment gateway?
I’m a new’be in web and I pretend to setup my online store. The question I have is … What is the difference between a merchant account and a payment gateway? and why do a merchant would require any of those services?
A merchant account simply allows you to accept credit card payments and a payment gateway authenticates and authorizes individual credit card transactions.
Both are necessary if you’re setting up an online store and want to accept credit card payments. Some merchant accounts include the payment gateway, but most don’t.

Is bluehost any good for an e-commerce site?
I’ve done some serious digging for a good hosting site for some time. godaddy.com has been my top choice simply because it is most recommended, and it best fit the needs of what I want to do? Would bluehost be any good for my needs or should I stick with godaddy. I’ve calculated that I would have to pay $150 up front, plus $65 monthly with godaddy, compared to $6.95 plus a merchant account w/ bluehost. I’m simply trying to figure out what’s the catch with bluehost.

Bluehost is pretty good all around host.
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb is on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.
They include easy, one click install of these E-Commerce solutions:
ZenCart
ZenCart truly is the art of e-commerce; a free, user-friendly, open source shopping cart system. The software is being developed by group of like-minded shop owners, programmers, designers, and consultants that think e-commerce could be and should be done differently.
osCommerce
osCommerce is an online shop e-commerce solution that offers a wide range of out-of-the-box features that allow online stores to be setup fairly quickly with ease. It is an e-commerce framework solution that not only remains easy to setup and maintain, but also makes it easier for store administrators to present their stores to their customers with their own unique requirements.
CubeCart
CubeCart is an eCommerce script written with PHP & MySQL. 100% template driven, XHTML & CSS valid, plug and play shipping/gateway/affiliate modules, tax by state/zone or country, multi currency support, email marketing, inventory stock control, sell digital & tangible goods and more.

Net Merchant Account

What is a better merchant account PAYPAL OR AUTHORIZE.net?
You cannot compare the two directly because Paypal is a processor and Authorize.Net is not.
Authorize.Net is by far the most popular payment gateway available and is used on over 170,000 websites. It acts like a credit card terminal or cash register does in a retail store. It just takes your credit card sale and sends it to your processing bank to be processed and returns the results to your website. This means you will need a merchant account to go with your Authorize.Net payment gateway. This merchant account can be from just about any provider so if you shop around you will get great rates.
There are pros and cons to using both Paypal and a merchant account w/Authorize.Net so which is better for you will depend on your business. There is a great article comparing the two that shows when each one would be a good solution for a business. I have placed that article in the sources area. But the basic jist is this: if your site will be low volume and small use Paypal. If you want your site to be big and professional in appearance use Authorize.Net with a merchant account.

Ecommerce Merchant Account

What is the most cost effective telephone and mail order merchant account for eCommerce?
I will be creating a website to sell products within the next year and know that to have a shopping cart i will need a merchant account to process credit card transactions, can anyone tell me what is the best and most cost effective merchant account for a new eCommerce site or could i rely on pay-pal to cover all my needs. i.e will i need a merchant account if i already have a pay-pal account? Thanks in advance.
Paypal works well for many businesses. We use it for both our companies. The only limitation is that it will not accept payments for transactions over £650 where the customer doesn’t have a Paypal account.
One way round this is to use Netbanx. Their fees are very reasonable and you can start with a bureau account with them (works in a similar way to Paypal) and change to a merchant account once you’ve built up a track record.
I did investigate having a merchant account with our bank but we would still have had to have the Netbanx account as well. Doubling the charges didn’t seem worth it. This may not be the case with all banks. I can only speak for Lloyds.
Good luck!

Merchant Account Id

Can I file as an individual in FL if I didn’t renew my LLC?
I’m getting around to filing my extended taxes for ‘07. I have a full time job and because I’m moving to Colorado next year after my wedding and because I haven’t been focusing on my business much this year, I did not renew the business license. I also canceled my bank merchant account, but I am keeping my tax id.
1. Can I file as an individual? Last year I think I made less than 10k with the business since I had my full time job.
2. If I need to file, do I add up both my full time job and the business to see if I can do the free e-file online?
3. Which form do I need?
You don’t need a “form” you need a tax pro.
The business license has nothing to do with how you’ll file and is irrelevant to how you file.
How was the LLC formed, and how did you elect to be taxed? That’s a critical question and if you don’t know the answer, you need to see a tax pro and bring all of the paperwork with you.
